Harrod Slot & Lock® Bean Column is a sturdy matt black powder coated aluminium runner bean frame wider and stronger than flimsy bamboo wigwam supports and will last season after season.
The frame secures rigidly with the help of our AWARD WINNING Harrod Slot & Lock® connectors, and makes assembly (screwdriver required) and disassembly of the bean frame quick and easy for off-season storage too.
The super strong 80mm/3” knotted mesh netting offers further support for climbing plants on all sides so tying isn’t needed and it’ll help keep plants upright for better air circulation, cleaner crops and fewer disease problems.
The netting is large enough to pass a hand through for easy runner bean harvesting and is strong enough for plants to
be torn off at the end of the season.
Supplied with releasable cable ties to secure netting, whilst the frame anchors to the ground with 2 heavy-duty U pegs.
Measures 55cm/22” W x 55cm/22” D x 1.95m/77” H
I found these frames quite easy to put together but I do have screw drivers as one is needed and that isn't made clear in the description. The design seems to be very good and they certainly look better than my odd collection of poles and canes which had definitely seen better days. I found the netting quite easy to apply once I had worked out which end to start with. this was helped by the ties being very easy to undo and reapply when my first effort wasn't quite right. Only just put in place with new plants so am keeping my fingers crossed that the 2 stakes provided are enough to keep the frames in place once, hopefully, the plants are full of beans as my soil is fairly light and being higher than houses behind the garden it is subject to catching the wind
Many thanks for your feedback which has been forwarded to our R & D Dept. we have added additional product information to the product page.
I purchased this bean column as I have got tired of the canes and poles either breaking under the weight or rotting! This will last for years and look tidier and I can quickly dismantle and store. As of yet it is not in use as only recently purchased but I'm sure it will do the job perfectly. If successfulI I may purchase some longer poles to create an oblong bean frame from Harrod's
I bought 4 to create architectural features down a 100 metre herbaceous border using everlasting sweet peas. Easy to assemble and persuade the plants to fill the space inside the netting. They created a spectacular display but started to lean due to the fact that ONLY 2 pegs are supplied. I went to a local agricultural machine repairer and metal worker who made me the additional 8 pegs for 15 euros in total - longer and thicker which sorted the problem although difficult to place after the plants had filled the space. This year all will be secure as pegs will be placed correctly before the plants reshoot.
Many thanks for your feedback, your comments have been forward on to our R & D Dept for further review

What to Buy - Plant Supports
KG Verdict - A strong and practical system. A tall, open system that provides plenty of room for growing climbing beans. Plants stay nicely separated at the top and air can circulate inside the column. Both sweet peas and climbing beans twine very happily round the netting and pull themselves up. Not the prettiest, but a very practical way to grow a good crop in a small space. The ground pegs are very long and strong, but they soon showed some signs of rust. The frame is robust and rust-proof.
