Here's a real organic story - Organic Coir Pots and in a Jute Sack that are grown, then used for growing in themselves before finally returning to the soil!
It's not only the environment that benefits from this natural production line - plants raised in the 8cm diameter pots enjoy air pruning (which encourages a thicker, stonger root system to develop), never get pot bound and suffer no root shock when planting, which will welcomed by plants who hate having their roots disturbed, such as courgettes.
These wonderful pots are packaged in a organic natural jute sack which can be used time and time again in the garden - before composting!
- Coir pots measure 8cm in diameter
- Supplied as sets of 15 pots and packed in a jute bag
- Pots remain stable above ground for a year and biodegrade in the soil after 6 weeks
- Pots add texture to the soil as they degrade
- Can also be added to the compost heap as a valuable source of carbon (brown material)
- Jute bag can also be composted after use
- Plants grown in these pots benefit from air pruning|No transplanting shock
- Ideal for cucurbits and courgettes in particular
Ever wondered how and where these coir pots come from? Read on...
Coming from what would be the unused husks of coconuts, our coir fibre is a totally renewable, and constantly renewed, natural resource.
Naturally growing coconut palms actually help reduce C02 emissions - try saying that about an oil well!
The coir pots, pressed into shape by the friendly people of Sri Lanka (we try to get most of them from a village women’s co-operative in the south of the country),
come to you on scheduled ships, and happily biodegrade when you plant them, and so a natural resource returns back to your soil.
Other benefits include healthy air pruned roots, no root binding, no need to twiddle the roots when you plant so no root shock - and they just look and feel so right !
They last about 12 months above ground, and about 6 weeks when planted. We say ‘about’ as they are natural products, with a lot of hand crafting about them.
The coir is dried in the sun, sprayed with natural organic latex, rolled flat (remember the mangle your Grandmother used to use) then pressed into shape before being trimmed by hand - then begins the journey leading back to the soil.
Plant these coir pots directly into the ground, there is absolutely no waste - you are just giving something back, letting that old natural cycle take over.
‘Renewable resource’ in modern jargon - we just think, as with everything we offer here, we are putting something back that we have just borrowed.
The organic natural Jute bag we package them in has a myriad of uses in the garden, and of course - after a couple of years - you can then compost it.
Remember, pot bound plants never quite recover.
