Growing Advice
Beans are perfect for a sunny, well drained spot and prefer to grow in moist fertile soil in a sheltered location away from strong winds. Avoid growing your beans in very wet, waterlogged soils.
These climbing beans can be grown in raised beds or patio pots and will need something to climb up. You can create wigwams with bamboo canes but we would recommend one of our Bean Frames which offers great support and can be used season after season.
When planting, the spacing is different depending on the variety of bean being grown, but you will receive full planting instructions with your plants.
Delivery is from Late April so if the temperatures are still a bit chilly it's worth planting them in pots and popping them in the greenhouse or on a windowsill until it warms up.
Harvest the beans when they reach the size you want them and pick regularly to encourage growth of new beans - the more you pick, the more they grow. Water well and don't let the plants dry out. Weed regularly so they have a better chance of growing strong.
Watch out for attack from birds especially when the plants are small.
Your plants will arrive carefully packed in straw. They may look a little tired from their travels, which is quite normal. Give the roots a good soaking for a couple of minutes and try to plant out within 24 hours.
