The Tropic Electric Fan Heater is a rigid plastic cased electric fan heater that is sufficient to heat a greenhouse measuring up to 2 1/2m x 3m (8' x 10') - the heater has two thermostats for summer and winter use and two settings of 1kW and 2kW.
- The internal fan helps to circulate the warm air quickly and efficiently around the greenhouse.
- The fan can also be used without the heating element to circulate air and cool the greenhouse in the summer.
- The unit measures 30cm H x 22cm W x 13cm D and has a 129cm long lead.
- The thermostat can be set on frost watch setting to keep your greenhouse frost free
Our Daily Express-published horticulturist and photographer Martin Fiddes says; "A greenhouse heater is essential if you want to make use of the structure all yerar round and an electric heater is the cleanest and most economic way of keepng your greenhouse above freezing.
A warm winter greenhouse will allow you to protect tender plants, get a head start with vegetable seed sowing, take and keep softwood and leafy cuttings and start off your hardy ornamental annuals that much earlier - and buy using bubble insulation, you can use a heater to create a mini hothouse section in your greenhouse as well as slashing heating costs."
The summer fan-only setting will reduce humidity and prevent common fungal plant diseases like botrytis, helping you maintain a healthy greenhouse all year round".
Product Reviews
Easy to operate but difficult to judge temperature set
I bought a one of these in May 2008, as I liked the idea that the summer air circulation feature is controlled by thermostat. The product worked fine for the summer of 2008 and did the job of heating the greenhouse during the winter. However during the summer of 2009 it developed a fault and constantly switched itself on and off every couple of seconds no matter what the thermostat setting was. I turned it off and resolved to be content just to use it for heating in the winter, but now (Nov.2009) it neither heats nor ventilates! So for £60.00 I got one summer of ventilation and one winters heating before it broke down completely. Fit for purpose? I think not!
