Solanum jasminoides Album, commonly known as Jasmine nightshade and Potato vine has fragrant, star-shaped, bluish-white flowers with tiny, yellow centres from June to September and glossy, dark green leaves.
This jasmine-scented climber is valuable for covering sheltered walls or for growing through other shrubs or climbers. Will need a trellis or growing supports if grown on walls or fences.
Evergreen - to semi evergreen, narrowly ovate to lance-shaped, glossy, dark-green leaves to 5cm (2in) long, sometimes 3 to 5 lobed or with separate leaves at the bases. Produces flowers 2.5cm (1in) across with yellow anthers in terminal and axillary clusters.
Caution, toxic if eaten - Do not eat these plants.
Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F).
