Gripple Wire Tensioners

To Kitchen Gardener Jo

For the attention of the Kitchen Gardener - Jo I would like more information about how the gripple wire tensioner works please. 1. Do I have to use it with the rope wire shown in your picture or will plain wire work too? 2. How does it tighten the wire to re-tension it? Many thanks for your help. It looks like the ideal product to use with vine eyes but I need to understand it better before I can make a purchase.

Many thanks for your help,

Pippa Schofield

Dear Pippa

I think it would work with any wire of the same thickness of the wire it comes with.  I’ve only used it with the recommended wire myself, but it looks like a standard garden wire.  It looks to be approx 3mm thick.  The wire that the tensioner comes with is very strong (solid nylon) and is very long lasting.

The gripple tensioners are one of my personal favourite Harrod products.  They are so easy to use and are so effective.  I cannot sing their praises enough.  You thread the wire through a hole on the tensioner and then loop the wire around the support or vine eye.  The wire is then threaded back through the tensioner via another hole.  The tensioner automatically holds the wire taught.  You can pull it as tight as you please.

I hope this is helpful to you.  Please let me know if you need any further information.

Kindest Regards

Jo
