Nibbled raspberry leaves

Dear Julian

My raspberry leaves have been eaten, I presume by a caterpillar but have not seen any butterflies yet. The fruit was fine and so I did not worry, but now they are nibbling the new canes, what can I use? I only have a few canes in the front garden, not many really.

Dear Sue

It could be caterpillars or Sawfly larvae. Both can be controlled with Pyrethrum sprays like Insect Killer spray from Harrod Horticultural. This is safe to use on edible crops and fruit can be harvested 24 hours after application. It kills on contact, so good coverage is needed. I think this could be a good solution for you.
