Scale Insects
Scale Insects - a pest to most gardeners, scale insects come in hard and soft versions and although generally immobile, these heat-loving creatures squat underside of leaves and produce honeydew, which leads to the appearance of sooty mould.

Fortunately, we've included in our Natural Choice pest control range two little friends are are rather more keen on scales than us gardeners; step forward the soft scale-killing parasitic wasp Metaphycus helvolus, a tiny creature which cunningly lays eggs into the scales and disposes of them; whilst short on table manners but not on appetite is Chilocorus nigritus, a greedy little black beetle which cruches its way through hard scales. As both these handy helpers only spark into life between March and October, our Savona spray steps into the breach until then.

Soft Scale Insect Killer
Soft Scale Insect Killer
£19.95
Soft Scale Insect Killer contains 25 tiny parasites called Metaphycus helvolus which can be introduced indoors, in both greenhouses and conservatories, to slow down and stop the spread of soft scale insects. These minute parasitic wasps inject their egg into the scale, killing them and producing another parasite.

To be effective, Soft Scale Insect Killer requires longer days (March to October) and minimum temperatures of 18ºC. Application is easy; simply release the insects on or near the infected plants (3-5 per plant). For severe infestations, repeat introductions of Soft Scale Insect Killer 2-3 times over 3-4 weeks and for control of hard scale insects, try our Hard Scale Insect Killer.

Please Note: this item will be despatched at the optimum time for application which will now be from March 2012. This live product is despatched to UK addresses only!

Hard Scale Insect Killer
Hard Scale Insect Killer
from £19.95
Treat hard scale insects indoors with our Hard Scale Killer and let the both the larvae and adult predatory beetles of Chilocorus nigritus loose on this common greenhouse and conservatory pest. The greedy, black, ladybird-like beetles (use 3-5 per plant) are effective during longer days (March to October) and operate at temperatures in excess of 18ºC, so are ideally suited to the warm conditions much loved by hard scale insects.

The larvae are best suited to individual plant treatments and the adults will return excellent clear-up rates when applied to multiple plants during severe infestations. The adults are not effective in the winter as they need sunlight to be active, so aim to supplement your biological control by using Savona Insect Killer Spray instead of the Hard Scale Insect Killer between October and March. Hard Scale Insect Killer is available in three pack sizes; 25 adults, 25 larvae or 10 larvae.
