The Organic Winston Dessert Apple is a late variety with green yellow skin flushed red and has good resistance to disease and being a late apple gives long storage life.
Partly self-fertile, the Winston Dessert Apple was introduced as Winter King in 1935 but was patriotically renamed Winston in 1944! This is a great variety to extend the harvesting time and will become a deeper flushed red by mid November and can remain on the tree until well after leaf fall. Fruits can be thinned in the summer to encourage larger fruits.
The trees are supplied on Moderate Vigour (MM106) or Semi Dwarfing (M26) Rootstock. The apples are ready for picking from Mid October and can be stored until April under the right conditions.

Planting - do not attempt to plant your fruit trees when the ground is frozen or waterlogged. The trees can be stored in their packaging in an outbuilding or garage for 2-3 days, or can be heeled into the soil where the ground is not as frozen. Alternatively, plant up in large pots or containers and ensure the roots have good contact with the soil.
