This week In Stephanie’s Kitchen Garden we will be concentrating on feeding and watering our crops. The weather has at last warmed up and our crops now need more care and attention to keep them productive. We like to use fish, blood and bone every six weeks on our leafy crops such as brassicas, spinach and chard, and seaweed feed on flowering crops such as courgettes and beans. Whenever rain is forecast we apply the feed to the soil and wait for it to be washed in. Our fruit trees are still enjoying a foliar feed of liquid seaweed and are thriving from it.
Of course the weeds will be enjoying the pampering as much as the vegetables so we are constantly busy with the hoe to keep them controlled. It doesn’t take long for them to take hold and set seed so it’s important to regularly hoe them off when they are very small.
This week we will making further sowing s of salad leaves to make sure we always have small plants to fill gaps that occur when mature plants are harvested. We have new broccoli and spinach seedlings to be pricked out and potted up for the same reason.
Our harvest is well under way now and we are looking forward to strawberries, salads, broccoli, asparagus, rhubarb, spinach, chard, tomatoes and cucumbers. Delicious.
Meet the Harrod Gardeners!
The customer service team at Harrod UK have put on their t-shirts for summer and also are getting busy in the greenhouse. They are enjoying the chance to put their product knowledge and growing skills to the test!
Every other week the staff head out to the greenhouse in teams and have a go at growing their own veg. So far this year they have harvested spring greens, radishes, salad and herbs, and have sown and planted out: Potatoes, Broad Beans, radishes, beetroot, sweetcorn, squashes, pumpkins, rhubarb, tomatoes and lots of salads. It just goes to show what you can do with a limited space in the garden.
We will keep you up to date with the staffs successes and failures! It all helps to give our staff some excellent experience in not only advising our customers on growing, but in how to use and install our product into your gardens.
