We're on the cusp of one of those defining weekends of the year because as of 2am on Sunday 28th October, it's the end if British Summer Time.

Yes, an extra hour in bed is certainly something to look forward to, but for us gardeners and other outdoor types, the shorter days seriously curtail our horticultural activities and pursuits.
That's why we need to really make the most of the weather and light now - and there's still plenty to keep us busy garden-wise, as you can see from this article I recently discovered. The author works at Aylett Nurseries in St Albans - my old stamping ground - arguably the leading dahlia growing establishment in the country.
I'm going to be turning my attention to the lawn this weekend and repairing or replacing any damaged areas. I'll also be adding an autumn feed, high in potash, to prepare the grass for winter. I'll also check for any daddy longlegs and maybe apply some leatherjacket-killing nematodes if I see any stragglers still hanging around.
Let's milk every Autumnal minute in the garden - after all, it's going to be dark and cold for quite a while soon...
