If your local park or open space is a hidden horticultural gem, then it’s time to act – for the annual search is on to find Britain’s Best Park.

With a cool £1000 worth of top horticultural engine manufacturer Briggs and Stratton (http://www.briggsandstratton.com/) lawn maintenance equipment on offer to the eventual winner, plus a chance to vie with the top parks from France, Germany, Italy and Sweden for the mantle of Europe’s Best Park, the competition is not to be sniffed at.

Parks and open spaces, especially in towns and cities, are both extremely valuable and vulnerable commodities, with developers often lurking, vulture-like, in the background. It’s essential we retain all these green areas, for the sporting fraternity and those with a more horticultural bias – not to mention the community as a whole - and recognise the hard and meticulous work involved in maintaining these sites.
