Squirrel proof a Fruit Cage

Answered by Harrod Horticultural Posted in Category Pest Control & Nature

Dear Harrod Horticulural

I am considering buying one of your fruit cages but the main reason is that I want to keep some squirrels out – are any of your nets suitable?

 Regards

Helen Brown

Dear Helen

Thank you for your recent enquiry with Harrod Horticultural.

We understand that you are interested in purchasing a fruit cage and would like to know which netting would be best to deter squirrels.

Regrettably we cannot guarantee any of our netting to be totally animal proof, our netting would only act as a deterrent against animals. Our strongest netting would be our 19mm Extra Heavy Duty Netting (product code GDN-071), however squirrels would still be able to chew through this.

One option would be to cover your fruit cage in our Heavy Duty Chicken Wire Netting (product code GNE-101), each 2m x 10m roll is priced at £136.95 so dependant on which size cage you have this could prove a little expensive.

A less expensive option would be to use one of our Outdoor Pest-Stop Ultrasonic Repellers (product code GPC-103). These are effective at preventing Squirrels as well as other pest such as rats, cats, dogs, rabbits, foxes, badgers and deer from entering the area. They work by emitting a burst of powerful ultrasound, triggered by a passive infra red detector and would not affect Human, Bird or Fish. Our Outdoor Pest-Stop Ultrasonic Repellers are priced at £42.95 each.
