Rootrainers provide the best growing system for seeds, plugs and cuttings by way of the deep ribbed cells which help seedlings develop strong, fibrous root systems.

The unique open-bottomed design of the cells allow earlier root tips to make contact with the air and die off, which are replaced by fresh young roots. The re-usable cells hinge open to allow easy removal of the plant, with no root disturbance, ready for transplanting.

  • Available in 12cm deep only
  • 64 cell pack consists 2 trays of 32 cells and 2 clear propagating lids - giving a potential 64 plants
  • Deep Rootrainers are ideal for beans, sweet peas and strawberries and other deep rooting plants
  • Rapid Rootrainers the choice for salad crops, bedding plants and all annuals not requiring deep rooting space
  • Re-useable cells simply hinge open to allow the plant to be removed without damaging the roots

I wish we could get the refill cells By Anonymous 5 3rd March 2015

I bought this product many, many years ago direct from the manufacturer. I've had so much success with them. The plastic is a little flimsy but surprisingly durable (they get plenty of rough treatment here) - but I like to use mine even though they have fallen apart - just put the sturdier ones either side for support. I bought a large box of refills but now unable to get the rootrainers without the frame and the manufacturer no longer sells direct. Frames I have plenty of, but a fair few cells now need replacing. For leeks, onions, peas - brilliant and all have had very healthy root systems. This system fits easily into a standard rectangular drip tray and can be watered without having to lift the tray up unlike conventional seed trays. I've even used them for French beans but although the germination and roots were good, the plants probably needed a wider cell/pot and I had to pop them outside sooner than I wanted. Any chance of adding the refill option in future please?

Useful device By Anonymous 4 12th April 2014

Bought two trays last year and decided the result was so good I've ordered another two. Living in the north it enables me to plant indoors for an earlier start to crops
