Gooseberry Sawfly

Dear Julian
Every year something eats all the the leaves in fact strips the plants but I have never seen any thing doing it.

I suspect this is Gooseberry Sawfly. The larvae, which look like caterpillars strip the leaves completely. You can use a pyrethrum based spray like Insect Killer Spray. This is a natural poison that kills the larvae on contact. It is also safe to use on edible plants. As soon as you see the larvae or damage, spray the plant thoroughly.
