The small, compact plants form a crisp, sweet heart surrounded by outside leaves and can be grown all year round with a greenhouse and cloche. Start a crop off in early spring and enjoy packing your salads, sandwiches and baguettes with leaves as little as 12 weeks later. • Packets of 100 seeds • Seeds certified organic by the Soil Association • Little Gem has some resistance to downy mildew • Suitable for growing all year round with protection • Cos-type lettuces which form a crisp heart • Leaves contain little calories, help aid digestion and promote a healthy liver • Start sowing undercover in late winter/early spring for an early summer harvest • Choose a sunny site for all but mid-summer crops • Moisture retentive soils are a must • Space plants 15cm apart and leave 25cm between rows • Ideal as a quick 'catch crop' when planted amongst slower growing vegetables • Keep well-watered when growing and during dry spells
