If you're a fan of big tomatoes - just imagine those huge slices in a salad, baguette or burger - then make room in your kitchen garden for organic F1 Alexandros and its beefsteak-sized fruits. Capable of producing 8-10 toms per truss, F1 Alexandros has a vine-growing habit and will need substantial support - but the whopping fruits will be worth the effort! This variety has some resistance to fusarium wilt and tomato mosaic virus and each packet contains 20 seeds. • 20 seeds per packet • Seeds certified organic by the Soil Association • Suitable for growing both under glass and outdoors • Seeds require at least 15°C of heat to germinate • Provide temperatures of at least 21°C for growing plants on • For plants destined for the garden, sow in early April • Prepare a fertile, rich soil for outdoor planting • Plants grow as vines so will need support • Growbag-raised tomatoes will need regular and copious watering • Liquid feed plants for bumper and tasty crops • Remove sideshoots to retain vigour • Lower leaves can also be removed below bottom truss to allow sunlight to ripen fruit • Plant 45cm apart and leave 90cm between rows outdoors The health benefits of tomatoes include: • Rich in both vitamins C and E • Linked to a reduced risk of heart attacks • Full of antioxidants which are thought to help prevent cancers, heart and stroke problems
