Nemaslug Slug Killer is fast gaining a reputation as the organic way of winning the garden battle against slugs and this silent killer owes its success - and the adulation of gardeners, allotment owners, kitchen gardeners and vegetable growers across the country - to a greedy little nematode named phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita.
Simple to apply, impossible to overdose and totally safe to use around children, pets and wildlife, Nemaslug Slug Killer slips seamlessly into any organic gardening set-up or otherwise and each treatment will give 6 weeks protection against marauding slugs. Just mix the nematodes with water, choose a watering can with a coarse rose - or make life even easier with a hosepipe applicator - and water on the garden from the start of the growing season once soil temperatures hit 5ºC.
Our range of Nemaslug Slug Killer pack sizes (small and large) and programmes - developed by gardeners for gardeners - will help you find just the right treatment for your garden and allow you to grow slug-free vegetables and plants at last. From the renowned range of Nemasys natural pest control comes Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer an you'll need it if your lawn has developed brown patches and the grass has little root growth as the chances are you’ve got leatherjackets (the larvae of the cranefly or daddy longlegs).
The prolific lawn pest is hunted down and killed by the nematode steinernema feltiae contained in Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer but there is a small window of opportunity to prevent this very-expensive-to-repair lawn damage; Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer applications should be made 1 - 2 weeks after the first craneflies have been spotted from late August onwards. An earlier treatment of Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer can be made in spring as long as soil temperatures are in excess of 10ºC but this application, although occasionally successful, is not as productive as the typical autumn dose.
• Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer should be applied from late August to end of October • Each pack treats 100 sqm • Can be applied in spring when leatherjackets begin feeding but not always successful • Spring application useful with severe infestations • Simply water onto soil • Full instructions provided • Essential to keep lawn moist before and after applying • Much more cost effective than re-turfing a lawn • Safe to use around children, pets and wildlife • Treats up to 100 sq.m.
Application Advice Full details of how to apply the nematodes are provided with the product but we can't stress how important it is to keep the soil moist after application. Failure to do so will severely reduce the effectiveness of the nematodes and they may even die. Ensure you water the soil or lawn immediately after application and keep damp for at least the next two weeks.
As this product has a very definite application window (when the young leatherjackets have just hatched), we refrain from supplying this product outside of these times when it is unlikely to prove effective.
Please note: this item will be despatched at the optimum time for application which will now be from August 2010
Slug Copper Rings Slugs put the brakes on the gardener's biggest enemy, slugs, as they are unable to attack plants surrounded by one of these copper rings. The copper ring forms a physical barrier around plants and also gives slugs an unpleasant shock-like sensation when they try and cross or climb the copper, caused by a reaction between the metal and the mucus they rely on to move.
There are two sizes of Slug Copper Rings available; the 10cm diameter version and a larger 17cm diameter size for larger plants. Both sizes of Slug Copper Rings are supplied in a packs of six.
• Slug Copper Rings available in two sizes • Smaller ring has an approx. diameter of 10cm • Larger version is 17cm across • Slug Copper Rings form a physical barrier round the plant • Shock-like sensation deters the slug should it attempt to scale the copper • Rings pull apart to enable them to be removed from climbers or bushy plants • Join two rings together to make one a larger size • When applying, ensure that the area is free from slugs and that no leaves are touching the surrounding soil • Copper will dull quickly after handling and exposure to weather • Weathered Slug Copper Rings turn a brown colour and blend with the soil • Discoloured ring does not affect performance • A combination pack of both sizes is available which includes 3 small and 3 large rings - see also Extra Value Saver on Large and Small Twin Packs - Save up to £3
