High Pressure Job...!

Dear Martin...

I have a giant rainwater tank and now need to buy a pump to use the water. Will the small water butt currently featured in the sale be sufficient to power a hose pipe to water my garden? It pumps out at 1080 litres per hour but I don't really know what this means.

Also my water butt is positioned at a slightly higher level than the garden so I will not need to pump the water up a level, just slightly down. Finally, will a standard hose pipe fit onto this water butt?

Thank you
Jane Woodward

Dear Jane

Many thanks for your recent message concerning the Small Water Butt Pump we supply. This little pump is perfect for pumping water at pressure from large water butts and the Giant Rainwater Tank in particular, as it just fits through the restricted opening in the top.

The pump has the capacity to move 1080 litres of water per hour as you say; this figure gives you an idea of how long it will take to empty a butt and as the giant rainwater tank holds 700 litres, the pump will empty this in under an hour – which is a lot of water for a little pump! Just remember that as the pump is submersible, it must be under water at all times or it runs the risk of burning out.

Finally, the hosepipe connection; the pump has two fittings for different dimensions of hosepipe, and the large adaptor is designed to take a standard ½” pipe. This is just a push fitting so to secure the hose to the pump, I’d recommend a winged hose clip which you simply turn and tighten by hand.

I think that just about covers it, but if you’ve any further questions and queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me – and many thanks once again for your enquiry.
