Ann Somerset Miles - A
Biography

Ann Somerset Miles is our new ‘food and
cookery’ expert. She is passionate about the rural economy
and gardening, fresh slow food and cooking (‘grow, cook,
eat’), and supporting local enterprises – topics about
which she writes regularly. With her photographer husband, Ray
Quinton, Ann ran a magazine publishing and printing company for
forty years. Simultaneously, they rebuilt a 16th Century farmhouse
with the help of their three children, whilst creating a thriving
and productive garden and orchard from an overgrown
wilderness.
Ann writes for a number of
magazines: her work has featured in ‘Grow it!’ and
‘Organic Gardening’; in ‘Organic Garden &
Home’ and ‘Kitchen Garden Online’; in
‘Tastes of Britain’, ‘BBC Good Food’ and
‘BBC Olive’. Other titles include
‘Goodwood’ magazine (on food, farming and other
topics), ‘Hello’ magazine, ‘Patchwork &
Quilting’, ‘Practical Caravan’,
‘Caravan’ and the club magazine of the ‘Camping
and Caravanning Club’.
A former teacher, Ann is also a
multi-media craftswoman and her instructional features appear from
time to time in various gardening, craft and travel magazines. She
is currently working on a series of books based upon the
reclamation of their farmhouse and garden, including entries from
her garden-cookbook journal.
